Belonging

I ran

Until I could run no more

Not knowing what I was running away from

Nor running toward.

Heart pounding at my chest

Giving and receiving

This heart came up beside me and said to me I was in pain

I listened.

I listened closely to this pounding heart

And I said: thank you for reminding me to look at my life,

For allowing me to feel this pain.

I returned home, but home was a strange and empty place.

I shut the door behind me,

and walked away.

I took the long and winding road,

It led me into the mountains.

I walked along the gurgling stream,

and waterfalls tumbling down the limestone walls

And I realized-

This is my home,

This is where I belong,

This is where my heart is free of pain.
